Marquis Software Solutions Data Breach Exposes Sensitive Credit Union Member Information

Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann, P.C. is investigating reports that Marquis Software Solutions, a technology provider used by banks and credit unions nationwide, suffered a significant cybersecurity incident that exposed sensitive consumer information.

According to regulatory filings, Marquis first detected suspicious activity within its network on August 14, 2025. Despite paying a ransomware demand soon afterward, stolen data reportedly surfaced on criminal marketplaces—a sign that attackers still retained or distributed copies of the compromised information.

By October 27, 2025, Marquis notified Community 1st Credit Union that member data—particularly information tied to accounts predating 2020—had been impacted. The Iowa Attorney General’s Office was formally notified on November 7, 2025. The breach affected 6,511 Iowa residents and 6,876 individuals overall.

What Information Was Exposed?

The data accessed by cybercriminals includes highly sensitive personally identifiable information (PII), such as:

  • Full names
  • Dates of birth
  • Financial account numbers
  • Social Security numbers or Tax ID numbers

This type of information can enable identity theft, account takeover, fraudulent loan applications, and other financial crimes.

Marquis’ Response to the Incident

After discovering the intrusion, Marquis launched an internal investigation and hired external cybersecurity specialists to assess the damage. The company also notified federal and state law enforcement and began coordinating with impacted financial institutions to identify at-risk customers.

Marquis has since implemented additional security measures, though details remain limited.

The company is offering affected individuals complimentary access to Epiq Privacy Solutions ID, which includes:

  • Credit monitoring
  • Dark web surveillance
  • Fraud protection tools
  • Change-of-address monitoring
  • Identity restoration support

What You Should Do If You Received a Notification

If Marquis or your financial institution informed you that your information was compromised, you should take immediate steps to protect yourself:

  1. Enroll in the free credit and identity monitoring services offered.
  2. Monitor bank and credit accounts for unauthorized charges or activity.
  3. Watch for phishing attempts, especially emails or calls claiming to be from your credit union.
  4. Consider placing a fraud alert or a credit freeze with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.

Exposure of Social Security numbers or account information can create long-term risks, and early action is essential.
