Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann, P.C. is investigating a large-scale data breach involving 700Credit, a credit reporting and identity verification services provider whose systems were linked to the exposure of personal information belonging to more than 5.8 million individuals.
700Credit provides credit checks, identity verification, fraud prevention, and compliance services to approximately 18,000 automotive, marine, RV, and powersports dealerships throughout North America. In late October 2025, the company disclosed that it identified unauthorized access tied to a third-party application programming interface connected to its web-based platform.
According to disclosures made to regulators, attackers compromised a partner system as early as July 2025. That compromise allowed the intruders to gain access to a third-party API associated with 700Credit’s web application, enabling them to copy consumer records without authorization. The activity went undetected for several months before being discovered on October 25, 2025.
Investigators later determined that information collected from dealerships between May 2025 and October 2025 may have been accessed and downloaded before the attackers were removed from the system.
The personal information involved in the breach varies by individual. However, 700Credit has acknowledged that the exposed data generally includes consumer names, home addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers.
The exposure of this combination of information presents a serious risk of identity theft, financial fraud, and long-term misuse of personal data.
While the company has stated that its internal corporate network was not breached, it confirmed that the intrusion affected the application layer of its 700Dealer.com platform, which is used by dealership clients to process consumer credit and identity data.
700Credit began notifying affected dealership clients about the breach on November 21, 2025. Written notification letters to impacted individuals are scheduled to begin mailing on December 22, 2025.
The company filed breach notices with multiple state attorney general offices, including Maine, and submitted a consolidated report to the Federal Trade Commission in coordination with the National Automobile Dealers Association. The incident was also reported to the FBI.
Regulatory filings indicate that a total of 5,836,521 individuals were affected nationwide. To address the risks created by the breach, 700Credit is offering twelve months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services to impacted individuals.
Data breaches involving Social Security numbers and other core identifiers can have lasting consequences. Stolen personal information may be used to open fraudulent accounts, apply for loans, file false tax returns, or impersonate victims in financial and legal transactions.
Even if fraud has not yet occurred, affected individuals may face years of monitoring and preventative measures to protect their identities.
