The FDA has issued a recall for the instructions related to the device due to concerns that the pump catheter might puncture the wall of the left ventricle in the heart. During surgical procedures, there is a risk that the Impella device could penetrate the left ventricular wall. Using an affected Impella pump may result in serious adverse health consequences, including:

- Hypertension
- Lack of Blood Flow
- Death
This device is commonly used for individuals with anterior infarction (heart disease), particularly among the elderly and women. It is threaded through blood vessels to take on the heart's workload in patients undergoing complex procedures or dealing with life-threatening conditions.
