VeriSource Services Data Breach

4 Million Impacted in VeriSource Services Data Breach: What You Need to Know

VeriSource Services, Inc. (VSI), a Houston-based business services company, recently confirmed a significant data breach that compromised the personal information of approximately 4 million individuals across the United States. If you received a data breach notification—or suspect your information may have been compromised—you may have legal rights.

At Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann, P.C., we’re actively investigating claims related to the VeriSource Services breach and offering free consultations to those affected.

What Happened?

On February 28, 2024, VeriSource detected suspicious activity that disrupted access to its systems. The company immediately launched an internal investigation and retained a third-party cybersecurity firm to determine the extent of the intrusion.

The investigation revealed that on or around February 27, 2024, an unauthorized actor gained access to sensitive personal data. While the breach was discovered in early 2024, it was not until April 17, 2025, that VSI completed its review and confirmed the scope of the compromised information. Notices to affected individuals began shortly thereafter.

VSI claims there is currently no evidence of misuse—but given the nature of the data involved, the risks to consumers are real and potentially long-term.

What Information Was Exposed?

The data potentially accessed in this breach includes highly sensitive personal details, such as:

  • Full Name
  • Mailing Address
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • Social Security Number

With this information, cybercriminals can engage in identity theft, credit fraud, tax scams, and other forms of financial exploitation.

What Should You Do If You Were Affected?

If you received a breach notification from VeriSource—or believe your information may have been compromised—it's important to act quickly:

  1. Monitor Your Credit: Review credit reports and bank statements for any unusual activity.
  2. Place Fraud Alerts: Contact one of the three major credit bureaus to set up an alert.
  3. Consider a Credit Freeze: This prevents new accounts from being opened in your name.
  4. Preserve Documentation: Save any letters, emails, or evidence related to the breach.
  5. Speak With a Data Breach Attorney: You may be eligible for financial compensation.

Can You File a Lawsuit?

Yes. Victims of data breaches may have legal recourse through a data breach lawsuit. Companies that collect and store personal data have a responsibility to safeguard it. When they fail, and a breach occurs due to negligent security practices, those affected may be entitled to compensation for:

  • Out-of-pocket expenses
  • Time spent dealing with identity theft or fraud
  • Credit monitoring and identity protection services
  • Emotional distress
  • Potential punitive damages in egregious cases
