About the Globe Life Lawsuit

A class action lawsuit was filed against Globe Life in federal court in the Eastern District of Arkansas alleging that Globe Life routinely cancels or rescinds small life insurance policies—typically ranging from $5,000 to $20,000—when beneficiaries file claims. These “burial policies” are often purchased to cover funeral expenses, medical bills, and other final costs.

According to the complaint, Globe Life:

  • Asks vague or overly broad health questions when selling policies.
  • Later conducts exhaustive reviews of the insured’s medical history after death.
  • Uses minor or unrelated health issues as a pretext to deny claims.

The compliant alleges these practices violate Arkansas law, which since 2011 has prohibited insurers from rescinding policies unless they can prove fraud or a material misrepresentation directly related to the cause of death.

Case Example: Jennings v. Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company

  • In the case filed against Globe Life, the plaintiff, Ms. Jennings, alleges that she was the beneficiary of a $10,0000 life insurance burial policy that her mother, Ms. Hartley, had purchased directly from Globe Life .
  • Ms. Jennings alleges that after the death of her mother, she filed a claim with Globe Life to receive policy benefits of $10,000 for funeral/burial expenses.
  • Ms. Jennings alleges that Globe Life denied the claim, citing Ms. Hartley’s undisclosed history of conditions such as hypertension, neuropathy, and depression—even though none of these conditions were listed as causes of her death, which was attributed to cardiogenic shock.
  • The lawsuit alleges that Globe Life’s conduct leaves grieving families without the financial support they were promised, forcing them to bear funeral and burial costs themselves.

Why This Matters

Burial policies are often purchased by elderly policyholders seeking peace of mind that their families will not be burdened with funeral expenses.

Globe Life’s alleged practices undermine this trust and violate the law, leaving vulnerable families financially and emotionally devastated. Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann, P.C. is committed to fighting back against these tactics and ensuring families receive the benefits they are owed.
