Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann, P.C. is investigating a recent data breach involving Farmers Insurance and its subsidiaries, which may have compromised sensitive personal information belonging to policyholders across the United States. The total number of affected individuals has not yet been confirmed.
According to a filing with the California Attorney General’s Office, on May 30, 2025, Farmers Insurance was alerted by one of its third-party vendors of suspicious activity in a database containing Farmers customer information. An internal investigation later revealed that an unauthorized actor accessed and potentially obtained data from the vendor’s system on May 29, 2025.
Farmers began reviewing the exposed data to determine which individuals were affected and what types of information were compromised. On August 22, 2025, Farmers started mailing notification letters to impacted customers.
As of the most recent update, Farmers has not provided a detailed list of the specific information compromised. However, the company confirmed that sensitive personal information belonging to customers was viewed and obtained by the unauthorized third party. Based on the nature of breaches involving third-party vendor systems, the exposed data may include personally identifiable information (PII), financial details, and insurance-related information.
Farmers reported the breach to state regulators, including the California Attorney General’s Office, and has begun notifying affected individuals. The company is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services to those impacted, along with details regarding the specific categories of information involved.
Headquartered in Woodland Hills, California, Farmers Insurance has been serving customers nationwide since 1928. The company provides auto, life, home, property, and commercial insurance products and manages more than 19 million policies across all 50 states, with a network of nearly 48,000 agents and over 20,000 employees.
