Pittman, Dutton, Hellums, Bradley & Mann, P.C. is investigating a major data breach involving Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, which may have exposed the personal information of the majority of its 1.4 million U.S. customers, along with financial professionals and select employees.
According to public reports, the breach occurred on July 16, 2025, when a malicious threat actor gained access to a third-party, cloud-based platform used by Allianz Life. The company stated that its internal systems were not directly accessed; however, the unauthorized party was able to steal data by exploiting the third-party system through social engineering tactics—a method that typically uses deception to manipulate users into granting access.
Allianz Life confirmed that personally identifiable information (PII) was compromised in the attack and has since notified the FBI and other authorities. The breach impacts only the U.S.-based Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, not other Allianz SE entities.
While a full list of compromised data has not been publicly disclosed, the affected information may include:
Given the scope of the incident and the number of individuals impacted, the risk of identity theft, financial fraud, and phishing attempts is high.
Allianz Life began notifying affected individuals and reported the incident to state and federal authorities, including the Maine Attorney General’s Office. The company stated that it detected the breach on July 17, just one day after it occurred, and is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection to those impacted.
The investigation into the breach is ongoing, and further updates may follow as more details become available.
